Updating driving licence
01-Oct-2020 06:30
If you move to a temporary address, such as for school, you don't have to change your address on your driving license provided the DVLA can still contact you at your permanent address. If your driving license will expire in less than 2 years, you have to renew it to update your photo. You can't simply submit a new photo when changing your address.BE WARNED: If you come across a service that offers to do this for you for a cost, it’s most likely a scam! First of all, you’ll have to register your driving licence address change on the DVLA’s database. To do this you can complete the DVLA change of address form on the website, or you can contact the DVLA by post.
A renewal will extend the term of the driver's license/permit/ID card.
Address changes can be done Online, using the DDS 2 GO Mobile App or in Person at a DDS Customer Service Center.
You cannot perform an address change by mail or phone.
However, if a customer currently holds a Secure DL/ID, only one (1) document is needed to prove residency.
For a list of acceptable documents proving residential address, visit our Secure ID Checklist page.
It is important to know when your driving licence expiry date is (or was), as it is illegal to drive without a valid licence.
